报告摘要:Professor Sheehanbelieves passionately in the value of quantitative reasoning for students inall disciplines. People of all cultures are better citizens if they can makeuse of quantitative reasoning. Sheehan believes that Statistics is an excellentsubject area to help students reason quantitatively. He uses software packagesto explore the relationships between variables. His favorite software is SPSSbut he also uses excel, SAS, R, Matlab, and others. This lecture helps studentsto understand the strength and limitations of statistical significance, how tochoose from many statistical models, and to know what strengths and limitationsare of each model,. He will also emphasize the need to understand and quantify"Effect Size" and "Power". He teaches a blend of parametricand non-parametric statistics and he shows students how to test if theirresults are different. He believes there is much in common understandingbetween disciplines such as Economics, Finance, Accounting, Psychology,Sociology, Marine Science when proper statistics are understood and used.
