关于举办李涛教授学术讲座的通知

报告题目:Innovating NextGeneration Computer Architecture in Big Data Era: Think Big, See Small

报告摘要(Abstract): 

Computer architecture forms thefoundation of society’s information technology. This foundation, which was laidseveral decades ago, is facing grand challenges today as power limits andreduced semiconductor reliability make it increasingly more difficult toleverage CMOS scaling, and the shift towards data centers, cloud computing, bigdata analytics and deep learning will include sustainability requirements fortraditional architectures. At the same time, there are emerging technologiessuch as green and clean energy computing, scalable memory devices, advancedintegration and interconnect methodologies that can be game-changers in thefuture. A new plethora of computer architectures can be built by exploitinginnovative concepts, mechanisms and implementations that take advantages ofthese emerging technologies while addressing new design challenges in big dataera.

In this talk, I will address theopportunities and challenges of integrating renewable energy technologies thatenable high-performance and sustainable computer and data center architectures.Designing renewable energy driven computer systems poses various challenges interms of intelligent control strategies for better energy utilization,optimizations for reducing overhead, and improving reliability. I will discussnew mechanisms for data centers that can achieve high efficiency anddependability in utilizing renewable energy. Moreover, I will address thechallenges and opportunities of fully exploiting the potential of emergingnon-volatile memory technologies to improve computer system memory performance,power-efficiency and reliability for big data applications. Although technologyscaling provides smaller and denser devices, it makes achieving these designgoals increasingly challenging. I will introduce holistic and cross-layerdesign approaches.

专家简介(Short Bio:

Dr. Tao Li is a full professorin the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University ofFlorida. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University ofTexas at Austin. His research interests include computer architecture,high-performance, energy-efficient, dependable and sustainable computersystems, big data, cloud computing, data centers, the impact of emergingtechnologies and applications on hardware and operating/run-time systems, andevaluation of computer systems. Dr. Tao Li received 2009 National ScienceFoundation Faculty Early CAREER Award, 2008, 2007, 2006 IBM Faculty Awards,2008 Microsoft Research Safe and Scalable Multi-core Computing Award and 2006Microsoft Research Trustworthy Computing Curriculum Award. Dr. Tao Lico-authored two papers that won the Best Paper Award in ICCD 2016 and HPCA 2011and six papers that were nominated for the Best Paper Awards in HPCA 2017, ICPP2015, CGO 2014, DSN 2011, MICRO 2008 and MASCOTS 2006. Dr. Tao Li is one of theCollege of Engineering winners, University of Florida Doctor DissertationAdvisor/Mentoring Award for 2013-2014 and 2011-2012. Dr. Tao Li served as theGeneral Chair of 2014 International Symposium on High Performance ComputerArchitecture.

李涛博士是美国佛罗里达大学工程学院电子与计算机工程系教授,智能计算机体系结构设计实验室主任。美国国家自然基金委员会计算机信息科学与工程学部项目主任。2004年于美国德克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校获得计算机工程博士学位。2013年获Yahoo!重大研究计划挑战奖。2009年获美国国家科学基金会杰出青年教授奖(NSF CAREER Award)。2008年,2007年,2006年均获 IBM 学院奖(IBM Faculty Award)。2008年获得美国微软研究院安全及可扩展多核计算机奖。2006年获得微软研究院可信计算课程研究奖。2012, 2014两度获佛罗里达大学工程学院年度最佳博士生论文导师奖。在高性能计算机体系结构、高效/可靠/低功耗微处理器及存储系统、面向云计算和大数据数据中心、虚拟化、并行与分布式计算、新型及可重构计算架构、面向特定应用计算架构、多核容错处理器、片上互连网络、面向多众核的可扩展体系架构、新型前瞻技术及应用对硬件和操作系统的影响、嵌入式与片上系统、以及计算机系统性能评估等诸多领域取得了多项开创性成果。在著名的国际期刊(大部分为 IEEE/ACM 期刊)和计算机体系结构类一级国际会议 ISCA MICROHPCAALPLOS SIGMETRICS PACTDSN发表论文120余篇,同时还获得10多项美国及中国发明专利。其中9篇论文被HPCA17ICCD16ICPP15CGO14HPCA11DSN11MICRO08IISWC07 MASCOTS06会议程序委员会推荐参选“最佳论文奖”。获ICCD16HPCA11最佳论文以及IEEE Computer Architecture Letters 2015度最佳论文。

李涛教授在诸多国际知名会议担任过大会主席和程序委员会主席,包括2014年国际顶级会议高性能计算机体系结构(HPCA)大会主席(General Chair)、2015IEEE网络,体系结构,存储会议(NAS)大会主席(GeneralChair)、2016年国际并行处理会议 (ICPP)系统结构方向程序委员会主席 (Program Chair)等。担任过众多知名国际会议的技术委员会委员(TPC Member)。是 IEEE 国际高性能体系结构会议顾问委员会委员(Steering Committee)及 IEEE 网络,体系结构,存储会议顾问委员会委员。是北美计算机华人学者联合会(ACSIC)执行常委委员。李涛教授担任40多个项目的负责人和首席科学家,研究课题受到美国国家自然科学基金、美国太空总署、美国国家半导体技术研究中心、IBM、微软、FacebookYahoo!、香港研究发展基金、中国国家自然科学基金等支持。担任过多个计算机系统和软硬件产品的总设计师和首席顾问,成果转化到IBMFreescale、微软、美国Infomedia 公司以及航天领域产品。
